When it comes to beer, Vorarlberg sets itself apart. For generations and centuries, the hoppy tipple has been brewed here in all is colourful varieties - at its peak there were 74 breweries across this small land. A brewery tour is a great way of getting an insight into the beer culture here, and glance over the shoulders of the brewmasters.

Brauerei Egg in Bregenzerwald

This place proves that Bregenzerwald can produce more than just cheese. In fact, a century ago there were 33 breweries there – now Brauerei Egg is the only one left. They’re still going stronger than ever, and always trying out new creations. You can get a glimpse of this during a tour of the premises, and experience first-hand their art of brewing. And of course, it can all not only be seen but tasted too during a beer sampling session.

The Mohren World of Beer

The name says it all – Dorbirn’s traditional Mohren brewery has put together an all-round experience encompassing a museum, guided tour, seminar rooms, and beer tasting sessions. Visitors can even make their very own beer creations, including milling, mashing, lautering and boiling the malt. Eight weeks later the brewed beer is ready to be picked up! Here, across 700 m² and four floors, you can take a walk through the history of brewing then stock up on beer and beery delicacies in the shop.

Frastanz Brewery Experience  

Take a look behind the scenes and into the storage cellars of this listed brewhouse. Visitors can get a genuine taste of brewing in the fermentation lounge, and pair speciality beers with a tasty menu in the former alting room. During this enlightening tour of the local brewery in Frastanz, participants learn the secrets of traditional beer brewing and get to know the entire brewing process along the way.

Fohrenburg in Bludenz

How often do you get the chance to be guided through a beer experience by a unicorn? Probably only at Fohrenburg in Bludenz, with its proud unicorn emblem playing a leading role in the audiovisual tour through the hallowed brewing halls. Visitors get an insight into the history and the particular art of brewing here. You can also take a look around the museum and make yourself comfortable at the bar to sample the brewery's speciality beers.
